In the village of Vik is the Vikurfjara Black Sand Beach. It has basalt rocks that stick out of the ocean in the distance. The rock formations are unique and provide an interesting landscape on the beach.
Vik is located in southern Iceland and is accessible from the Ring Road (Route 1, which circles the entire country).
On the other side of Vikurfjara is Reynisfjöru (Reynisfjara) Black Sand Beach. It offers additional views of the basalt rocks with lava columns similar to those found at the Svartifoss waterfall. I did not know about this additional section of the black sand beach until after visiting Vikurfjara.
